Rumori (Danketsu 9, Choyas) is the solo project of Jason Adams, focused on using unexpected textures and minimal melodies from heavily effected cello. After playing numerous live shows in Southern California, interviews and performance sessions with Otto's Space Grotto and Knife Play, and releases as part of various ensembles on Patient Sounds, Tapeworm, and Never Anything Records, Rumori has grown a dedicated following in the experimental scene.
Deviance, the debut album, will be released this fall via Wishful Thinking Records. These compositions are the result of a tightly honed live set comprised entirely of sounds from effected cello. Each of the seven tracks focuses on creating its own environment with surprising range across each piece of music. From the slow and oppressive creep of opener "Tarantula", to the frenzied "Shrouded", to the optimistic beauty of "Swept", the EP explores emotional spaces with patience, minimalism, and subtlety. Certain tracks have already received placement in film scores, and for good reason: the title track, for instance, builds tension and engagement despite a lack of traditional melody, choosing instead to layer and develop its expansive sound design.
Rumori teamed up with award-winning director Andrew Rodriquez and art director Uel Renteria to create a unique music video for "Tarantula", set in Renteria's psychedelic world of paintography. The video and single will be announced soon. You can see screenshots of the video below.
